Fighting illiteracy
Since 2006, Legris Industries has made an active contribution to the fight against illiteracy in society with the support of staff members and in cooperation with associations operating at grassroots level. Each year, 0.5% of cash flow is earmarked for this purpose.
Legris Industries' actions:
- Supporting associations that help children and teenagers in difficulty gain access to essential skills giving them contributions in the form of funding and/or know how,
- Giving opportunities for staff volunteers to participate with programs structured at national and regional levels:
Since 2007, for each hour donated to one of the associations out of an employee’s free time, Legris will fund an additional hour of company time–up to four hours a month.
In 2009, Group employees went on humanitarian vacation in a functional rehabilitation center at Lokossa in Benin. The concept is based on co-investment: the employee contributes two weeks of his leave entitlement and Legris Industries pays expenses (travel, food and accomodation...).
This vacation was planned with Double Sens, tour operator specialized in humanitarians travels (www.doublesens.fr).
Associations we support:
- National association: AFEV
- L'AFEV (Association de la Fondation Etudiante pour la Ville), the French students' association helping children and other people in difficulty, brings together 6,600 volunteers through a national program to ease access to basic skills. Support is currently offered in three French towns: Rennes, Tourcoing and Saint Etienne. Our support 2007/2008 has allowed the associations concerned to provide assistance to 82 more people in difficulty.
- Local association
- Porte-plume (Beaune): association which provides individual assistance with schoolwork, remedial reading, writing and arithmetic, and French lessons for foreigners...
Solidarity and Commitment - 2010 in review
- Solidarity leave: for the second year running, Group staff emembers took part in a development assistance program at a functional rehabilitation center in Benin. Over two weeks, six participants shared the experience of humanitarian work in an environment far removed from their daily routine (click here to read their impressions: evidence of the 2010 humanitarian travelers).
- Action at local level: Local initiatives continued in 2010, as illustrated by support for student association AFEV in Saint-Etienne and Tourcoing.
Clextral provided a stand for AFEV student volunteers at its open day in October, and as in 2009 will be backing the association's Christmas tree with a toy collection now under way. AFEV has also benefited from other support from both a-SIS and Clextral, including donations of furniture, loose-leaf binders and computers.
